Intro

I'm Amy Thomsen, a Learning Experience Designer dedicated to creating engaging, effective, and inclusive learning journeys. I blend instructional design, user experience, and storytelling to craft digital and blended learning that empowers learners and drives real-world results.

My vision

I am deeply committed to designing transformative learning experiences that are inclusive, accessible, and engaging for all learners. My approach is centered on human-centered design principles, ensuring that every educational solution is tailored to meet the diverse needs of learners, while also promoting equity and accessibility in every aspect of the learning journey. I believe that education should be a space of continuous growth—both for learners and for those who design learning experiences. By integrating cutting-edge technologies like Articulate Rise and Storyline, along with principles of andragogy and best practices in instructional design, I strive to create content that is not only effective but also meaningful and impactful. I am excited to collaborate with cross-functional teams, learning from diverse perspectives, and continuously improving my craft to create educational experiences that empower learners and drive long-term success..

Interactive Learning that Empowers You!

I’m a Learning Experience Designer who believes training should be more than a checkbox—it should be transformational. I combine instructional strategy, UX design, and behavioral science to build learning that’s intuitive, engaging, and built for how people actually learn.

Previous Work

Here are some short clips of my recent collaborations!

The CRADA Challenge was used as a test preparation for a unit on CRADAs.  The goal was to answer as many questions correct to fill in the puzzle, which was to encourage the learner to order the free FLC calendar.  Storyline, Sound effects and graphics from Envato, and voice overs from Well Said Labs.

This interactive tests the knowledge of The Desk Reference, a guidebook to Technology Transfer for federal agencies such as the DoD and DOE.  Storyline, Sound effects and graphics from Envato were used.

This review is based upon the Patents Micro-Credential, a pilot study and the basis of my dissertation.  When questions are incorrect, explanations are given to allow the learner to understand why the answer was incorrect and where to resource the information.  This was developed using Articulate and Envato.

This is an example of a webinar I hosted. Within the LMS I included a transcript, closed captioning, this webinar, and supporting materials. During the webinar, I moderated the chat, helped answer questions, trouble shooting for those who had trouble logging in, and ran the slide deck.

Education

A Research Study on Micro-Credentialing and Adult Learning

My dissertation studied adults employed by various federal agencies in a micro-credential on patents. The study employed the ADDIE and UDL methods, works from Knowles, Dewey, and Piaget. The course was held asynchronous on PathLMS and included case studies, guidebooks, gamification, etc. The most surprising result was that the adult learners spent over 70% of their time on the gamification supplementals!

Mentorship Program

The FLC Mentorship Pilot Program was an idea I proposed to the FLC board and Executive Director. The program included an interest survey, SME’s who donated their time in a bi-monthly workshop, mentors meeting with mentees once a month, corresponding courses on Path LMS, and office hours for those with technical issues. A Credly badge was issued at the completion of the program.

Educational Meeting Planner

Planning large-scale meetings takes more than organization—it takes vision, precision, and experience. I proven track record of delivering high-impact events across the country. The 2024 FLC National Meeting was the largest attended on record with over 90% satisfaction rate!
